Challenge to minimize Waste

We started this business with the intent to save our planet 1 person at a time. People make fun of me for that but I honestly believe we all must take the initiative to look at the volume of waste we create and what happens to it after we throw it in that receptacle that gets taken to the curb once a week.

We tend to throw our garbage away, take it to the curb every week, and never think about it again. Just imagine if your garbage collection stopped and you were faced with piling up smelly garbage bags on your front lawn. It isn’t a pretty thought. Now imagine every home on your street with that same scenario. WOW that’s overwhelming. Now imagine every street in your neighborhood, your community, your state the rest of the country. YIKES! There are so many things that can be done by each of us that can help reduce our waste. I started by composting at home. I started with my coffee grounds & egg shells and progressively added more organic items as I learned more about how to compost. It became obvious quickly, that I didn’t need to take out my trash as often, for 2 reasons… it didn’t smell (no rotting food in there to create an odor) and there wasn’t much in there but the items I couldn’t recycle. I still had a lot of plastic items and that evolved into a conscious effort to reduce my plastic use. Everyone of us has the capability to reduce their waste, it may seem overwhelming, but I promise, if you take baby steps and challenge yourself to try it, it will be fun. Who is up for a challenge? Try it today and let us know what you did today to help minimize the “stuff” you throw away.
