Local Landfills filling up

I keep reading that the local landfills are filling up and there is nowhere for them to expand. It begs to ask the question, why don’t we mandate composting and recycling? These options should be available through our current waste management companies. I can’t figure out why they don’t do this, they are already going door to door. Why don’t all of the States in the US, mandate separating out recycling and organic compostable materials? Other countries and some of the states in the USA do it, we certainly should be able to do it here in TN. Why can’t city leaders/officials incorporate plans from successful programs and implement them here? I wish I knew the answer. Food for thought…
